The ACCEL solution controls your ASICs voltage supply, dynamically adjusting for load variations and changes in process, temperature, and voltage. This results in significantly reduced variations in gate delay and power dissipation, allowing much narrower targeted operating specifications.
Speed and power improvement are achieved by generating a supply voltage that compensates for process and temperature conditions, resulting in a much tighter range of performance. Instead of designing to the usual 3X variation in gate delay, this is reduced by a factor of 2-3. Similarly, power dissipation is reduced due to limiting operation to lower supply voltages for low temperature and fast process conditions.
Because design parameters are restricted to a tighter range, it is easier to meet timing requirements and requires less effort to complete timing closure and power distribution analysis.
Marginal performance problems that only occur in the outer corner conditions will be eliminated due to tightened operation.
When targeting the typical corner, the resulting speed improvement is similar to that achieved with next generation technology. This allows you to extend product life by achieving higher performance with existing, mature technology, and avoid the cost, effort, and risk associated with migrating to new technology.
